High Tide

In the mouth of my cave
we stood in silence
but for the rhyme of roiling waves
washing clean the rocks at shore
and your tender look
bathed my longing soul

Your face shone silken silver blue
under the soft light
of our full-faced moon
and I could hear my heart
above the ocean’s seething swirl

Sweet Heaven help me…
a day later
I am blinded and deaf
to all reason…
all sense and wonder…
to all…
but the miracle
of the moonlight
that shone in your eyes
